Page 1 of 7 ARTICLE 1: NAME AND PURPOSE Section 1: Name This organization shall be known as the California Consortium for Independent Study, hereinafter referred to as CCIS. Section 2: Purpose The general purpose of CCIS is to provide education information and professional training to the general public, public school educators and government agencies on the value of independent study. The organization shall carry out this purpose by: A. providing in-service training to its members. B. providing a means for members to meet, confer, and network through professional development events and regional workshops and meetings. C. encouraging the exchange of materials and information about independent study. D. collaborating with the California Department of Education disseminating information for the establishment and improvement of independent study. E. encouraging districts and county offices of education to establish and maintain quality independent study. F. establishing and maintaining an active public relations program which communicates the goals and objectives of CCIS. G. maintaining a relationship with other professional education organizations. H. discussing issues relating to independent study with the California Department of Education, Department of Finance, the California Legislature, and other appropriate agencies. I. adopting rules and regulations, not inconsistent with law, to ensure the orderly and purposeful functioning of CCIS.
