COVID-19 Update – Critical Advice on Collective Bargaining and Paid Leave

COVID-19

In addition to our work with state leadership in Sacramento, we’ve been in daily contact with our partners at Atkinson, Andelson, Loya, Ruud & Romo (AALRR) to make sure we understand the laws that impact LEA operations during this crisis. AALRR has done an excellent job of interpreting the various Executive Orders, legislation and guidance related to the COVID-19 crisis, and providing timely and actionable advice to the field. We, in turn, are using the perspectives from AALRR to help inform state policy-makers of areas where further clarification may be needed.

Today, AALRR released two critically important legal Alerts regarding collective bargaining and paid sick leave during this crisis. In addition to covering the applicable laws, these Alerts provide practical and actionable advice on these topics. If you are responsible for either of these subject areas, we encourage you to review this advice.

For those of you who may have missed it, here is previous advice from AALRR on special education, and their latest Alert on Brown Act waivers.

Finally, we have been told to expect updates, every Friday, regarding the guidance to school officials from CDE and the Governor’s Office. Please see the CDE weekly update. Specifically, we expect some further guidance on special education.
